An interesting premise - what happens to those left behind when suddenly many loved ones - spouses, children, friends - disappear? This book chronicles the impact that the "Sudden Departure" has on the small town residents of Mapleton. The evangelicals advocate that it couldn't have been the Rapture - because how come they weren't taken? - and those without Christian belief are at a loss what to believe. All they know is that life has irrevocably changed and they have to find out how to cope.
